Our Week - August 10

Hello first grade parents!

Each week information about our week will be posted here. You can discover what skills and information we are working on. Also, a few notes for you will be at the start of each message.

  • Check your first grader's agenda every day. Notes and information will come home in the agenda. Make sure to sign the agenda each evening and send back any needed information.
  • Has all the first-of-the-year paperwork been returned?
  • First grade t-shirts are only $5.00. Please send money (in an envelope) and size choice.
  • If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Wiley at any time.

We are reviewing words that we learned last year. We are working on reading these words independently: I, can, we, like, see, the, go, to, have, a.
We are working on reading color words: red, yellow, blue, green, orange, brown, black, purple, pink, gray.

We are reviewing these sounds at the beginning and ending of words: m, s, t, p, n, k, f, h.
We are reviewing the sound of short a (as in apple).
We are working on naming words that rhyme (mat, bat).

We will practice writing these words by thinking about their sounds:
at, cat, hat, pat, an, can, man, am, ham, Pam

We will practice reading number words: one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten.
We will be writing numbers 1 to 25.
We will count up to 25.
We will compare numbers between 1 and 25. (Which number is more? Which number is less?)

We will be learning how to work and learn together. We will learn rules, routines, and procedures that will help our classroom work well.
